The Patient Care Coordinator Certificate of Achievement prepares students for employment in the outpatient setting including medical clinics and doctors’ offices. Students receive training in medical terminology, medical law and ethics, administrative tasks, Microsoft office, lifestyle medicine, health and wellness coaching, and interpersonal communication.
Students who complete the Patient Care Coordinator Certificate of Achievement will be able to:
1. Apply medical terminology to the various aspects of their profession.
2. Communicate with patients and their families regarding treatment, procedures, medications and continued care.
3. Perform analytical and data entry tasks.
4. Secure authorization for patient procedures, and communicate costs and insurance authorization to all parties.
5. Schedule patient visits and answer pre visit questions, including questions about billing.
6. Demonstrate legal aspects of health care, confidentiality requirements and health ethics in the workplace.

Mesa College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with caution when developing a new program and supports a program modification because 1) there is a large supply gap in the region; 2) entry-level and median earnings for most occupations are below the living wage, but employers post wages in online job postings that are above the living wage; and 3) a high number of institutions train for these occupations.
