The proposed WeldingTechnology Certificate will align with the American Welding Society Standardsfor an Entry Level Welder. The American Welding Society sets the national andinternational standards for welders, welding inspectors, and welding educators. The proposed certificate program will prepare students for careers in welding, fabrication, and manufacturing. This Certificate is designed to train studentsas welders and prepare them to pass the American WeldingSociety (AWS) welding examination. Welders who pass this test are responsiblefor quality code work on public infrastructure manufacturing or any renderingof welds done by the Certified Welder. Certified Welders (CW) are highlyskilled high paid individuals that are needed to maintain quality work in theconstruction and manufacturing industries where welding is rendered.
The Local Welding Certificate of Achievement by College of the Desert is designed to prepare students for Immediate (AWS) skills test and/or entry level positions as a welder or welding apprentice in the welding industry. This Program is intended to meet the need of those students who do not wish to immediately pursue a higher degree but desire to enter the welding field directly but is also valuable for students who desire to gain higher education to qualify them for supervisory roles in the welding and manufacturing industries.
