This degree prepares the student for entry-level positions of administration in the healthcare industry. Emphasis will be placed on healthcare office administration, human resources management, medical terminology, general office skills, basic computer software applications, healthcare systems, physical and electronical records management, business communications, and business ethics and the legal issues that associated with ethics.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the understanding of the basic healthcare system in the United States. To include the history and application of healthcare within the public and private sector.
2. Demonstrate the ability to perform general business communications in multiple modalities. To include basic computer operating systems, basic computer software applications, and the ability to choose the correct form of communication for basic business situation.
3. Demonstrate the ability to maintain physical and electronical records. To include the application of a Records Information Management (RIM) system for both physical and electronic files.
4. Demonstrate the ability to apply IRAC method of analysis to solve or resolve business ethical issues that may have legal ramifications. To include process of creating procedures for possible prevention of future ethical issues.
5. Demonstrate the ability to apply theories and practices relating to the management of people. To include the application of managing human resources within an organization, and basic personnel processes.
6. Demonstrate the ability to perform basic medical office procedures. To include knowledge of inventory, receiving payments, and billing.
7. Demonstrate the understanding of HIPAA. To include applying ethical decision making to the Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
