Web Designer I Certificate prepares a student for employment in an entry level
position through a steam-lined format. Web design skills are in demand because
producing for the web is the new literacy. Students will have a choice of industry
standard platforms, such as Wordpress or Adobe Dreamweaver. Skill-building for
planning, message design, user experience, the graphical user interface, file
management, navigation architecture, design and layout, managing graphics,
search engine optimization, and troubleshooting are among the topics in this
program. The courses in this certificate are hands-on and may be taken online
through distance education.

This certificate prepares the successful student for an entry-level job in web
development. Entry level jobs may be in web graphics, graphic design, junior design, digital design, and digital media.
WEB DESIGNER I introduces core concepts and skills, which leads to an established AS degree: WEB FRONT END DESIGN. The strategy is to motivatestudents to go on for the degree once they have confidence learning the softwareskills through the core courses in the stackable program.
People looking to brush up, update, or learn new skills will be able to do that withthis stackable certificate that can be completed in one or two semesters.
Career/Technical/Transfer
This is a "stackable" certificate, which comprises of the three beginning core
courses in the Web certificate.
Career Path: A student is able to complete this certificate in a semester or two,
gaining skills for an entry-level position.
Academic Degree Path: After completing three core courses in this certificate, a
student will see the feasibility of completing a degree.

Palomar College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. There is a supply gap (35 annual job openings), entry-level wages are $19.53, and total employment for the occupation increased from 1,520 to 2,494 jobs in the region over the past 10 years. Based on available LMI, the COE report supports the development of a new program.
