This is a ‘new program’ but it is replacing an existing preschool program (which will be deactivated when this program is in place). There are a few modifications that were made to this new program—as this program will align with the Master Teacher Permit in a way that the current program does not.
Program goals include preparing students for work in early childcare environments and for the advancement of those already working in these essential workplace roles. The classes align with the California Child Development Master Teacher Permit.
The “New” Child Development Master Teacher Preschool Program will consist of 39 units. This program is actually to replace an existing program. It has been redone to be a part of our stackable programs. Students have the opportunity to earn an Associate Teacher Certificate (which aligns with the California Child Development Associate Teacher Permit), followed by the Teacher Certificate/A.S. Degree (which aligns with the California Child Development Teacher Permit) and then with the additional 14 units, students will be able to obtain the Master Teacher Preschool Certificate/Degree (which aligns with the California Child Development Master Teacher Permit). Please see the pdf that shows our stackable degrees. This is the most popular of all of our degrees/certificates.

Palomar College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. There is an “oversupply” in the labor market for the occupations to be trained and entry-level and median wages are below the living wage. However, the total number of jobs for preschool teachers have grown 8% or 429 in San Diego County. In other words, while a lot of programs exist and wages are low, the occupation continues to grow every year. Based on available LMI, the COE would not endorse a *new* program; however, because this program replaces an existing program and Palomar College submitted employer letters, Palomar College followed all the steps necessary in the Regional Program Recommendation Process to get endorsements outside of the COE.
