The Citrus College Real Estate Associate’s Degree in Science provides the educational requirements for the real estate salesperson and broker licenses (issued by the State of California Department of Real Estate).
Coursework prepares students for work in this dynamic profession. Essential success skills are emphasized including: financing, property valuation, sales, law, ethics, and professionalism.
Completion of the program may also provide additional career opportunities and increased earnings potential.
This degree is designed to:
-Prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions by offering real estate-related courses, in addition to those required for the AS-T degree in business administration, that fulfill either transfer or elective requirements for the University of California or other private institutions;
- Ensure that students interested in using the AS in Real Estate as their terminal degree receive sufficient education in real estate-related issues; and/or
- Prepare students for professional careers or otherwise enhance their personal growth. The degree requires completion of 60 semester units.
We expect that 10 students annually will complete the A.S. Real Estate program.
Offer a pathway for students to receive an Associate's Degree in Real Estate and pursue a career in Real Estate. Over the last few years the business department has been increasing the number of course offerings in Real Estate. Real Estate has gone from offering two Real estate classes (Real Estate Practices and Real Estate Principles) to now teaching 7 Real Estate courses, a skill award, and a certificate. In addition to adding these classes, Citrus College is now teaching several more sections of Real Estate Practices and Real Estate Principles and has hired several adjunct professors to teach these classes.
These classes have provided a pathway for traditional and non-traditional students to obtain their Real Estate Sales license and Real Estate Brokers licensee. On June 2, 2017, the advisory committee for Real Estate and Accounting met. During this meeting Professor Kim asked if we should develop an AA degree in Real Estate. All in attendance felt that would have great value to the community and help students get hired and succeed in the field of Real Estate. Students are lacking in depth knowledge about why the Real Estate industry operates the way it does. All industry professionals agreed with that position. Several examples were given about problems between the brokers and agents because of lack of knowledge of agents.
The real estate classes at Citrus College are transferable as electives to California State Universities, and also allow for our non-traditional students to complete a pathway to a college degree while fulfilling the educational requirements to sit for the Real Estate sales person license and broker’s license.
Other community colleges offering this opportunity to traditional and non-traditional students include such colleges as: Mt. SAC, Fullerton College and Santiago Community College.
