This program gives students the skills necessary to work as associate teachers of preschool children in early childhood settings. Courses emphasize strong theoretical and practical skills needed to work with children 2-5 years. Successful completion of all courses with a grade of "C" or better meets early childhood education qualifications for transfer, and meets the child development requirements of the Child Development Permit at the Teacher level so that the holder can be employed as a Preschool Teacher. The Early Childhood units in this degree will also transfer to a B.A./B.S. degree program in Child Development, Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Development and other related fields. In addition, students with this degree can own and operate Child Development Center, Family Child Care Provider and/or other related care facilities for children from birth to 8 years of age. The degree aligns with Child Development Permit (issued by the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing) at the Lead Teacher Level and higher and students can be employed as an advanced level teacher at a State or Federally funded preschool program.
