This four-course certificate helps prepare students for all four associate level exams under the Amazon Web Services (AWS) academy. These are for entry-level Cloud Services positions. Courses are hands-on intensive and cover all aspects of cloud technologies. Students will demonstrate the ability to utilize, deploy and administrate AWS components including E2C, Storage, Database, Virtual Private Cloud, High Availability, Automation, Application Development (Cloud Specific), Identity Management, High Availability, Pricing, and Cloud Budgeting. Upon completion of this certificate, students can expect to apply for cloud administrator, cloud analyst, cloud developer, and cloud practitioner positions at the associate level.
As of this submission, there are 12 Los Angeles County Community Colleges (El Camino, ELAC, Glendale, Harbor, Mission, Pierce, LATTC, LA Valley, Mt SAC, Rio Hondo, SMC, WLAC) pursuing the program with a projected enrollment of 1500-1800 and a completion rate of 75% or approximately 1,238 on a yearly basis. This value is tabulated by the approximation of the courses below with current enrollment levels in Fall 2018 (510) and the potential enrollment of upcoming colleges. With the inclusion of Orange County which is approximately ½ of Los Angeles in enrollment, an additional 619 completers are expected for a total of 1,857 yearly completers which would be an 91% increase in completion numbers for this general field of study. The completers would represent 38% of the annual job openings specific to AWS cloud technology and only 18% of the total openings in the field of information and computing technology within the Los Angeles/Orange County regions.
The program will have students demonstrate the ability to define different types of cloud computing models, describe the six advantages of cloud computing, recognize the main AWS service categories and core services, identify the business advantages for moving to the cloud and recognize the Amazon Web Services Global Infrastructure.
Furthermore, students will develop new applications solutions and automate normal functions in a secure manner for cloud solutions within AWS.
Finally, students will explain concepts, terminology, practices associated with cloud architecture operations and troubleshooting of common cloud problems.
Specific Objectives of Certificate:
