This program focuses on preparing the student for their first career in the fire prevention bureau. This program will be completed in 4 semesters. The program includes educational opportunities for those employed within the fire service, as well as those within volunteer fire agencies. Courses include those required for transfer to four-year colleges, those required to meet eligibility requirements for employment, and those required for incentive salary increases and promotions. Fire Prevention is a dynamic public safety profession that requires a wide and ever-changing range of knowledge and skills. Areas of necessary knowledge include safety, fire behavior and suppression, rescue, emergency medical service delivery and operations, hazardous materials, building construction, detection and signaling systems and the incident command system.

For the 2017-2018 Academic Year up until today, the program has awarded 83 Associate of Science degrees out of 405 to 420 major counts. With the industry recommendation of a Fire Prevention Internship Certification as a minimum requirement, the completer rate for this certificate will be much higher than completer rates for the A.S. degree alone.
In 2017-2019, the Fire Protection Technology program had enrollment of 16.9% female, 82.0% male, and 1.1% students of unknown gender. FPT enrollment consisted of:

1% Pacific Islander/HI Native students,
29% White students,
6% multi-ethnic students, and
2% students of other or unknown ethnicity.
The age breakdown for 2018-19 enrollments in Fire Protection Technology revealed:

22% aged 25 to 34
4% aged 35 and older
The goal of this program is to provide a pathway to meet eligibility requirements for employment in Fire Prevention. Career opportunities include the following: fire inspector, fire investigator, fire prevention specialist, fire marshal, deputy fire marshal,, hazardous materials, and community education.
