The Composite Materials Technology program at Palomar College prepares students to work in industries such as aerospace, automotive, marine, sporting goods, and parts assembly. This program introduces basic composite materials, techniques, and procedures and progresses through advanced composite skills. Students will demonstrate industry standards concerning safety, composite terminology, hand lay-ups, and composite inspection and repair. Students who complete this program will be prepared for entry-level employment as composite technicians and composite repair technicians.
20 - 30 completions per year
To provide a high-quality and hands-on program to fill the need for trained professionals in the Composites Manufacturing and Repair sectors. Skills students will obtain include:
· Practice problem-solving skills
· Understand the theory of lamination.
· Apply tooling and mold methods.
· Understand resin-to-fiber content ratio.
· Demonstrate composite manufacturing techniques
· Demonstrate composite repair techniques
The job market for Composite technicians and repair personnel requires this knowledge and experience. Palomar would be the only institute in North County to provide this education and training. Composites is a growing industry supporting the Aerospace sector and department of defense.
