With the Business Information Worker II Certificate of Achievement, students will gain advanced skills in effective presentations, advanced spreadsheets, QuickBooks, using databases, managing physical and electronic records, and an introduction to Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms. Students can boost their office assistant and office management skills gained in the workplace or through the Business Information Worker Level I program.
There are 5 required courses for this certificate, totaling 13 units.
This certificate can be completed 100% online, and in one semester, if desired.
The program is estimated to have 5-10 students completing the certificate program by the second year. As the BIW II program gains more recognition, and more BIW I students join the program, the number of certificate completers should increase to 15-20 by year five.
Cabrillo College is seeking approval from the Chancellor’s Office for the new Business Information Worker Level II Certificate of Achievement.
The Business Information Worker (BIW) certificates prepare students for entry-level careers in business and professional workplace settings. The Business Information Worker II Certificate of Achievement adds intermediate and advanced level skills, while expanding the scope of the beginning skills found in the Level I. Computer Applications/Business Technology (CABT) prepares students to use computer applications and business procedures to solve problems in contemporary business environments. CABT courses are applicable in many career ladders including vocational training and retraining, and career advancement. CABT courses, certificates, and the AS Degree are stepping-stones to a variety of professional careers in business and technology.
According to the San Francisco Bay Center of Excellence, there is a significant under-supply of workers to meet the market needs for the job cluster requiring skills from the BIW II certificate, in the Santa Cruz and Monterey County area, as well as in the greater Bay Area, with a gap of 18,684 job vacancies that can be filled by students. According to the California Community College Foundation, there is a need to increase training for office professionals to meet market demands across the entire state, where students in computer application and business tech classes number only slightly more than a third of the available hundreds-of thousands of job openings. With our online format, and the majority of the classes certified with the high standards of the OEI rubric by the end of 2020, we can serve students throughout the state of California.
