Provide students with skills for developing Labor Market Demands influenced by new code requirements in energy efficiency.
Item 1. Program Goals and Objectives
Laney College currently offers a wide range of courses in Carpentry. The Associates Degree and Certificate prepares students for a career in the construction industry, either as self-employed carpenters, employees or as General Contractors. Our students are trained in basic construction and advanced practices and methods of construction. We do this by building and remodeling residential homes in the community in cooperation with the City of Oakland and the Oakland Rotary. We emphasize green, sustainable and high performance building. Elements of our program include best building practices in energy efficiency, weatherization and digital fabrication.
Program Outcomes
· Analyze and apply energy efficient and safe building techniques.
· Communicate effectively in the technical language of the Carpentry/Construction Trades, including written, verbal and mathematical computation skills.
· Develop a foundation of core skills necessary to safely operate power tools and equipment used to build, repair and remodel homes to current code requirements.
