De Anza College’s Forensic Criminal Investigation Technician meets the needs of both students and employers alike. The program focuses on preparing active-duty professionals and students for employment within the criminal justice field as a forensic crime scene investigator (CSI) with advanced knowledge and specialized skills that are required for in-depth felony investigations. Students’ communities that would benefit from this certificate are non-traditional and underrepresented who do not desire traditional law enforcement employment such as adult learners, women, re-entering employment, career-changing, veterans, and non-degrees; research reveals that approximately 40% of undergraduate students are non-traditional. The De Anza College Mission Statement states that the college will strive to design course programs for the needs of the students’ communities we serve. Law enforcement agencies, due to reform movements and financial restraints, are looking to fill non-enforcement positions with non-sworn personnel.
