The Cannabis Level 2 certificate build on the Cannabis Level 1 certificate and prepares students for advanced level positions in the Cannabis industry.
Students are required to complete 6 courses that encompass advanced level Cannabis cultivation techniques, soil science, pest diagnostics, as well as Cannabis facility management as it applies to Cannabis cultivation outcomes.
The required courses develop a foundation in cultivation techniques to achieve specific production goals. In addition, students will be able to troubleshoot and diagnose pest issues in a Cannabis cultivation system, as well as managing the abiotic inputs of growing facilities including, lighting, irrigation and arrangement. This certificate also requires the student to complete work experience course in an approved Cannabis production facility.
Students must complete Cannabis Level 1 Certificate courses as a prerequisite to the Cannabis Level 2 Certificate. This will delay course completers for one year from the proposed programs start date.
Courses will be structured so that students can complete the certificate in Spring and Fall semester, or one academic calendar year. Due to the size of lab courses, 24, we expect a small percentage of drops in this cohort. This creates an estimate of 20 completers per year.
This certificate will build on skills learned in the Cannabis Level 1 certificate to develop the skills necessary to acquire an advanced level position in the Cannabis industry.
Students will learn advanced Cannabis cultivation techniques and become familiar with the operational components of Cannabis facilities.
Cannabis Level 2 Certificate is part of a series of programs recommended by the Agriculture Sciences department. The programs recommended include the Cannabis Level 1 Certificate, Cannabis Level 2 Certificate, and the AS Cannabis Operations. These programs were developed from interest from multiple data points, including student demand, LMI data, the Cannabis industry, and the Horticulture Advisory Committee.
