Comment: Ventura College is opposed to this program due to its geographic proximity to Oxnard College’s program and duplication of efforts for a program that is expensive to set-up and maintain. The pool of applicants isn’t deep enough locally to support two Fire Academies in close proximity.

Comment: Oxnard College is opposed to this program due to its geographic proximity and duplication of efforts for such a high-cost program. Over the past 2 years, OC has experienced a decline in applicants and the addition of another Fire Academy at COC would exasperate this decline. The number of applicants is too small to support another Fire Academy in our region.

Comment: Not recommended due to lack of qualified instructor applicants, location of program, and potential interference with other current fire technology programs on campus.

Recommending the region have a discussion given the concerns of OC & VC. I am interested in hearing more about the JUA with LACFD as they are attempting to meet their future department employment gaps. In addition, it would be important to learn how the ISA with LACFD supports the career preparation for the community representative of CoC while not impacting the service area of OCs academy. Robert
