The Child Development- Early Intervention and Inclusion Associate in Science Degree prepares students with specialized skills to work with children with special needs and other disabilities and/or early Intervention programs. This degree meets the State's competencies for early intervention/early childhood special education paraprofessionals. This degree meets California's Title 5 requirements for the Child Development Teacher and Master Teacher Permit issued by the State of California, Commission on Teacher Credentialing. To earn the Child Development-Early Intervention and Inclusion Associate in Science Degree, students must complete required major units in addition to completion of CSU-GE or IGETC coursework. All courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.

Students completing this degree will work effectively with children with special needs and other disabilities in early start programs, inclusion program, as well as school districts classroom and special education settings.
The goals and objectives for the courses offered to obtain this degree will give students the necessary skills needed to obtain one of several specialized positions. Students will develop competencies that relate to each of these occupations:

Students Learning Outcomes for Early Intervention and Inclusion Associate in Science Degree: Students completing this degree will:
• Understand and use a wide array of developmentally appropriate approaches, instructional strategies, and tools to connect with children and families and positively influence each child's development and learning.
• Be grounded in Child Development knowledge (theory) and use their understanding of young children and their needs to create environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for each child.
• Be able to evaluate Early Care and Education Program regulations, standards, and policies according to Title 22 California.
• Be able to integrate understanding of characteristics of typical and atypical development and multiple influences on development of children birth to age eight as related to high quality care and education of young children.
• Be able to evaluate, design, and implement environments and activities through observation, intentional reflection, and assessment that support positive, developmental play and learning outcomes for young children in inclusive environments.
• Be able to adapt and apply respectful, effective guidance and interaction strategies that support all children’s identity, self-confidence, and social learning.
• Be able to identify and conduct themselves as members of the early childhood profession. They know ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to early childhood practices. They know ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to early childhood education.
This program provides a theoretical framework and practical experience developing skills necessary to work directly in preschool classrooms with children with special needs and/or Early Intervention Programs. Graduates can be employed at the teacher or master teacher level. The program develops students’ skills and abilities in observation and assessing, planning and executing activities for typical and atypical children, and classroom management based on developmentally appropriate practices. Degree requirements exceed the identified eight (8) courses for transfer by requiring additional practical experience and curriculum courses.
