This certificate gives students a focus on pest management in landscape and nursery settings and prepares them for the Qualified Applicator Certificate administered by the Calif. Dept. of Pesticide Regulation, a widely recognized certification among horticultural employers.
It is anticipated that 10-12 students per year will earn this Certificate of Achievement.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will demonstrate an ability to:
Pass the Qualified Applicator Certificate exam administered by the Calif. Dept. of Pesticide Regulation.
Recognize ten or more insect pests and make judgments about monitoring and managing them in landscape or nursery settings.
Recognize ten or more plant diseases and make judgements about preventing and managing them in landscape or nursery settings.
Recognize three or more plant nutritional deficiencies and make judgements about addressing them in landscape or nursery settings.
Read pesticide labels, understand hazards associated with products, and use appropriate application techniques according to label directions.
