The General Motors Advanced Certificate option prepares students for employment as an entry-level automotive technician at a General Motors (GM) dealership. Courses focus on both the mechanical and electric systems within a vehicle and how to diagnose and repair them. They include automatic transaxle/transmission, HVAC, diesel technology, advanced electrical systems, and advanced engine performance. Students will also increase their hands-on skills and experience by working in the field. Graduates are employed as entry-level technicians at GM dealers and have the ability to work as a bumper-to-bumper technician or as a specialized automotive repair technician.
I project having 16-18 completers earning a certificate every year.
The program goal is to provide training that will assist students in becoming entry level automotive technicians at General Motors dealerships.
Below are the program objectives:
Students are required to be working at a General Motors dealership. They will be continuing courses on individual vehicles systems such as automatic transaxle/transmission, HVAC, diesel technology, advanced electrical systems, and advanced engine performance. Students will also be gaining more hands-on skills while working in the field.
The program was approved and recommended by the Cerritos College Automotive Department advisory committee on March 28, 2019.
