The Court Reporting Program at College of Marin offers four stackable certificates designed for students interested in acquiring the skills necessary to secure employment as a verbatim reporter in our courts of law, pre-trial depositions, senate and congressional hearings, closed captioning and educational captioning.
Completion of the requirements for the Associate in Science for Court Reporting prepares students for transfer to a California State University, a University of California, a university of their choice to pursue a baccalaureate degree in Court Reporting or to enter the job market

The new certificate program in Court Reporting will offer four new stackable Certificates of Achievement in addition to an A. S. degree in Court Reporting. The new certificates are as follows; Certificate of Achievement for Proofreading, Certificate of Achievement for Scopist,
Certificate of Achievement for Communication Access Realtime Translation (C.A.R.T.) and Certificate of Achievement for CSR-Ready exam preparation.
The CSR-Ready Certificate is the fourth and final in the series of stackable certificates that will prepare students for successful completion of the CSR exam. Please refer to the additional information section.
Successful completion of the CSR-Ready Certificate is the final stage of College of Marin’s new revitalized court reporting program. Successful completion of this certificate will prepare students with skills needed to pass the CSR exam, the culmination of this certificate. The CSR exam enables students to enter the job market in a variety of employment positions.
1. Students in this new certificate program will learn current California codes and regulations applicable in the industry.
2. Students that successfully complete the CSR-Ready Certificate will have completed a 50-hourinternship and shadowing hours with licensed shorthand reporters.
3. Students that successfully compete the CSR-Ready Certificate will be better prepared for the CSR exam through the new stackable certificates with better course stepping to develop steno speed-writing skills, a primary goal of the certificates.
4. Students that successfully complete of the CSR-Ready certificate will be able to seek employment working directly with California courts, deposition reporting firms and governmental entities.
5. Create a six-semester certificate that provides students with necessary skills that are directly related to job-market needs.
Certificate Objectives
The objectives for the CSR-Ready certificate are listed below:
• provides training that introduces students to real time transcript production
• familiarity with California codes
• competency editing spoken-text punctuation and grammar
• familiarity with medical, legal and pharmaceutical vocabulary
• competency at the 200wpm speed-writing level
The Certificate of Achievement, CSR-Ready prepares students for entry-level occupations in the legal industry. There are no prerequisites to enter this program. Students earning this certificate will by default earn the Proofreading, Scopist and C.A.R.T. certificates.

A couple of tweaks came through after my submission for this certificate. Here are the corrections: The total units for the C.S.R. Ready Certificate should be 68 units. COUR180A that is listed in semester 5 should be listed in semester 4. COUR180B should be added to semester 5. COUR 200B that is listed in semester 6 should be 200A.
