The Geographic Information Systems Certificate program is designed to provide entry-level training for students seeking employment in this fast-growing profession, or to update the skills of those already working in the field of Geographic Information Systems. The program may be completed in one year including summer session. Students are expected to have basic familiarity with computer operation.
11-20 completers are expected on an annual basis
The goal of the GIS Certificate of Achievement is to enhance students’ spatial reasoning and GIS technical knowledge. Completers of this program will qualify for entry level positions in the GIS field, such as GIS Technician, Cartographer, Mapping Technician, and Remote Sensing Technician. These positions are mostly found in private consulting firms, utility companies, as well as local government.
The courses in this certificate program will cover introductory topics in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)and Geographic Information Science, as well as intermediate-level topics such as GIS programming and database management.
