Explanation/Program Goal: This new certificate is being added to an existing program, originally approved in the 1980s, in which certificates and a degree already exist. This program goal will not only prepare students for the California Real Estate Salesperson License, but for challenges in starting a new business.
Program Requirements: Requirements include completion of the following:
-2 specific real estate courses, which are required by the DRE for a Salesperson License;
-A choice of 1 course from the list of DRE recognized electives, including real estate courses, business law, general accounting and economics courses; and
-A choice of at least 3 courses in which students will learn additional business skills and theory to assist their success as a new business owner.
Prerequisites/Limitations: There are no prerequisites required, or limitations for this certificate.

Catalog Description: This certificate of achievement meets the California Department of Real Estate education requirements for the Real Estate Salesperson License, which allows for immediate vocational employment. It also helps new business owners succeed through the understanding and application of business and entrepreneurial skills. This certificate It is recommended for anyone wishing to qualify for the DRE Salesperson Exam and who desire to succeed as a new business owner in the area of of sales, leasing, lending, investment and development of single family, multi-family and commercial properties.
IVC Real Estate courses enroll approximately 400 un-duplicated students each year. This new certificate expands outside real estate courses to include business, entrepreneurship, accounting and economics courses with a goal of 30 completers in the first year.
Occupational goal for those entering a career in real estate sales, property management, loan origination, real estate development and related fields. In addition to entering the career field, this certificate will also help prepare students to succeed as a small business owner.

To accomplish the goals of this certificate, students can take classes online or in person in two or three semesters. All real estate classes are offered in 8-week sections, so adult learners and full-time students alike can manage outside responsibilities and those of learning a new industry. This certificate expands on the educational requirements to learn a new industry to apply business skills and theory to a new small business owner.
