The Fire Officer/CompanyOfficer degrees are being created in response to the evolving field of FireTechnology. This A.S. will be part ofthe existing Fire Technology program and will be offered in addition to theestablished Fire Technology A.A. degrees. The goal of this program of study is to enable students and in-serviceprofessionals to gain and acquire the skills, knowledge and abilities to workin the fire service as a first-line supervisor.
Uponcompletion of the core components of the curriculum, the student should be ableto:
Gainstrong interpersonal and communication skills
Applynecessary skills to be a successful Company Officer
Understandand apply foundational knowledge as a Company Officer supervisor
This degree will not take theplace of the current Fire Technology majors. This degree will provide a moreaccurate major for Fire Technology students who wish to become supervisors inthe fire service, and will probably not significantly increase the number ofcourses needed as students are already enrolled in these courses. For each of the courses, it wouldbe difficult to project how many sections would be needed, as Fire Technology isn’t the only degree that would be enrolledin those courses.
