The Pilates Professional Teacher Training Certificate prepares students for careers as Pilates instructors/trainers in professional Pilates studios, dance studios, corporate fitness facilities, wellness centers, public/private health clubs and private training in a home studio. The certificate meets the industry standards for a Pilates Teacher Training technique course in Mat and Reformer, and includes lecture, self-study, and teaching hours. The program includes Pilates theory, anatomy, the Mat and Reformer repertoire of exercises and after completing the certificate, students will be qualified to teach all levels of the Pilates exercises in Mat and Reformer, including special populations and remedial programs.

The Pilates Professional Teacher Training Certificate: Mat and Reformer provides a pathway for students who wish to teach Pilates in a variety of settings, including any or all of the following: Pilates studio trainer, dance studios, physical fitness training facility, physical therapy facility and movement rehab or therapy. The certificate curriculum meets the standards of the Pilates industry in accordance with criteria outlined by the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), a professional association and certifying agency. The Pilates program provides students with a solid, well-rounded technical and creative understanding of Pilates, and the certificate will enable students to gain the education necessary to safely and knowledgeably teach Pilates. The program covers Pilates theory, anatomy, pedagogy, and exercise repertoire for the Mat and Reformer. The certificate includes lecture, self-integration, and practice teaching hours. After completing the certificate, students will be qualified to teach all levels of the Pilates exercise repertoire in Mat and Reformer, including special populations and remedial programs. Once established, this program of Pilates teacher training will be one of only a few in the southern California Community College system.
The Pilates Professional Teacher Training: Mat and Reformer Certificate provides 16.5 units of rigorous, competitive education, providing hard-working students with the following necessary competencies:
· Theory, history, and principles of Pilates.
· Effective communications ( oral cueing, imagery cueing, physical demonstration, and tactile cueing)
· Problem solving and organization (creating lesson plans for individuals and groups while dealing with restrictions, skill levels, and special populations; creating a catalog of organized exercises according to intent)
· Anatomy as applied to Pilates, and Kinesiology ( scientifically analyzing the Pilates repertoire of exercises on Mat and Reformer and how to incorporate that knowledge into teaching)
· Alignment education (assessing proper body alignment with an understanding of posture misalignments and how to correct them using neuro-muscular re-education through the Pilates system of exercises.)
Upon completion of the Pilates Professional Teacher Training: Mat and Reformer Certificate, students will be prepared for the following careers:
· Pilates instructor working in a Pilates studio.
· Pilates instructor in a personal home business.
· Pilates instructor in a corporate fitness center, wellness center, or sports medicine center.
· Pilates instructor in a physical therapy or chiropractic facility.
· Pilates instructor in a dance or yoga studio.
