The curriculum contained in this occupational skills certificate provides a student with the necessary skills to seek entry-level employment as an electronics technician working on digital electronics systems. Students completing this certificate program will have the basic skills needed to work with electronic digital and microprocessor-based equipment. In addition to the ability to use common electronics test equipment, such as oscilloscopes and digital multimeters, students will have an understanding of microcontroller hardware and software and the ability to prototype, test, and debug simple microcontroller-based systems. Students will also have the skills required to design printed circuit boards, solder, and perform basic assembly of electronic systems.

The goal of the BDT certificate is to provide occupational skills for students who are interested in working in the field of electronics as electronic assemblers or technicians. Additionally students who are in related fields of engineering will complete the certificate to supplement basic skills in electronics related to their field. Additionally students will be able to communicate to other individuals in the industry and be familiar with the terminology specific to electronics.
The requirements for the Electronics Technology Basic Digital Technician certificate are the completion of four courses which include introduction to electronics, use of troubleshooting and hand tools, PCB design, Programming and advanced digital theory and troubleshooting. These courses will provide a well-rounded skill-set that will prepare students for immediate entry into the electronics industry.
