The Industrial Maintenance Technician certificate is in alignment with Reedley College’s Mission and State Center Community College District’s Master Plan offering access to quality career technical programs. In addition, as this certificate program will also be offered at the Madera Community College Center (MCCC), it supports the district and Reedley College goals of supporting MCCC’s move toward future college status.
The new Center for Agriculture and Technology has been highlighted in many meetings and forums as being not only the first Measure C building, but as having the capability of becoming a cornerstone for advanced maintenance and agriculture technologies. Reedley College / Madera Community College Center has the facilities and resources to maintain the program. Faculty teaching in the program meet the minimum qualifications and experience for teaching the industrial technology courses.
The Industrial Maintenance Technician program will utilize the college program review process for program monitoring and improvement.
The industrial technology instructors maintain active communication and employer relationships with local business owners through site visits to the manufacturing facilities throughout the year to follow up on student employment opportunities and on-the-job performance. The instructors also maintain class contact with employers and students through work experience classes. This program will fulfill a training need by industry by training students to work in the field of Industrial Maintenance. Local food processing and manufacturing plants are in desperate need of skilled maintenance workers to keep lines running. Feedback from past Advisory Committee meetings tells us that local Madera industry is excited about having this program available for Madera students, and that the possibilities of new industry hires in the maintenance field are astounding.
This program will reside in the Industrial Technology Department.

The college also offers a local low-unit Certificate in Maintenance Mechanic.
The majority of these programs focus on the fabrication / manufacturing side of the industry. Even the Manufacturing Maintenance Mechanic certificate and degree has a large manufacturing aspect to the program. The Industrial Maintenance Technician program will focus primarily on the maintenance, repair& operation (MRO) facet of the industry. The Industrial Maintenance Technician certificate is designed to target students lacking the experience in industry and seeking a broad set of skills to begin their careers as operators, technicians and entry-level maintenance personnel. The program is a better option for students seeking employment in the industry who have limited experience working in physical plants.
The Industrial Maintenance Technician certificate is a new offering for high demand, high wage jobs. In our region, there are similar programs offered at:
1. Fresno City College Career and Technology Center, Maintenance Mechanic Program.
2. Reedley College, Manufacturing Maintenance Mechanic Program.
3. Clovis Community College, Mechatronics Program
The Industrial Maintenance Technician program will be the only one of its kind in the San Joaquin Valley, in that it offers the industry-recognized NIMS Industrial Technology Maintenance stackable credentials with its nine duty area topics described above.
Due to the distance between each college, the program will not impact any other college’s existing program.
