The LVN to RN only (30-unit) option meets CA State Regulation 1429 and those completing this track are eligible to apply for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCLEX) licensing exam in preparation for licensure as a RN. This is a non-degree option. States other than CA may not grant RN licensure based on completion of this option. Career laddering to a higher level such as BSN may be limited by this option as well. It is recommended the applicant call the Nursing Department for more information. Students who quality will be admitted each semester on a space available basis.

Upon successful completion of the program, the students will:
1. Communicate and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare partners in providing care to a diverse population of patients and families
2. Demonstrate problem solving skills while utilizing resources to apply best practices to deliver safe and effective care.
3. Demonstrate application of evidence based practice in rendering ethical, competent and culturally sensitive care across the lifespan to all patients.
Applicants are admitted on a space-available basis points in multi-criteria screening process and by date of receipt of completed application packet. The minimum qualifications for admission to this track are:
1. Current CA LVN license
2. Graduation from an accredited vocational school of nursing or demonstrated mastery of course content by challenge examination
3. IV Certified
4. Completion of the pre-req courses with an overall averaged GPA of 2.5 or higher: BIOL 5, Human Physiology; BIOL 6 Introductory Microbiology; NURS 36 Pathophysiology
5. Completion of the following individual courses with a "C" or higher: BIOL 5, Human Physiology; BIOL 6 Introductory Microbiology; NURS 36 Pathophysiology
The program requirements include NURS 3 Medical Surgical Nursing and NURS 21 Pediatric Nursing in semester 1 for this track (third semester in the RN program), and NURS 33 Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing and NURS 4 Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing in semester 2 for this track (forth & final semester in the RN program).

NURS 4 Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing 6.5 units semester 2
This change is combining two courses: NURS 4A Medical Surgical Nursing IV and NURS 4B Leadership in Nursing into NURS 4 Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing. The combined course, NURS 4, introduces concepts related to patients with hematologic, immunologic, burns, infective, and cancerous processes and diseases. The topics of leadership and management, delegation, quality and safety, time management, conflict resolution, organization structure and change, legal and ethical issues, and role transition are content focuses. The scope of practice of the RN as defined by the CA Business and Professions Code is discussed along with an outlook on the future of nursing and nursing practice.
