The Quality Control (QC) / Inspection Technician Certificate will provide students the knowledge and skills needed to obtain employment in a Quality Control Department. Students will learn the basic skills needed to properly use precision measuring tools, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and interpret engineering blueprints. Additionally, students will gain skills in the application of Technical math and develop a basic understanding of the system for defining and communicating engineering tolerances through the use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
40 students annually
The goal of this certificate program is to provide students with entry level knowledge and skills needed to obtain employment in a Quality Control Department. Students will learn the basic skills needed to properly use precision measuring tools, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and interpret engineering blueprints. The LMI demonstrates a large supply gap in the region for students with this skill set, primarily as a result of the increased levels of manufacturing.
This short term-certificate is part of a stackable sequence of two certificates that lead to the associate degree with one additional course. This will prepare students for entry into the field of machining in the advanced manufacturing sector. This certificate focuses on Quality Control through the use of precision measuring with a focus on engineering tolerances. Students will be able to complete this stackable certificate in one semester and go directly into the workforce, or opt to complete the other certificate in the stackable sequence. They can continue on in the program and take an additional 3 unit course in the major and then complete their general education units to earn their associate degree.
Course | Title | Units | Year/Semester (Y1 or S1) |
---|---|---|---|
DT 117 | Blueprint Reaching and GD&T | 3 units | S1 |
MACH 108 | Technical Math | 3 units | S1 |
MACH 120 | Precision Measure and Metrology | 3 units | S1 |

What occupation(s) is this program training for? The current report only shows Machining and CNC Occupations, but Industrial Quality Control (TOP 095680) trains for "Inspectors, Testers, Sorters, Samplers, and Weighers." . Here's the LMI for Inspectors, Testers, Sorters, Samplers, and Weighers: http://coeccc.net/reports/Inspectors_Testers_Sorters_Samplers_and_Weighers . The COE endorses a program because there is a need in our region, but would like clarity on the occupation(s) to be trained.
