Currently there is no Filmmaking Certificate of Achievement and therefore no way for students to receive a degree. By creating this program students will have the ability to receive a certificate of achievement in Film and this will significantly increase our enrollment in the existing courses. The hope is to have 1-3 students earning certificates in the first 2 years, and then increase to 5-8 students thereafter.
The purpose of the Film Certificate of Achievement is to prepare students to enter the workforce as an entry level digital storyteller or continue their studies in film. The coursework will prepare students to enter the workforce prepared to do entry-level digital storytelling work using skills obtained from the foundational courses in this program. These same foundational courses will also prepare students interested in furthering their education.
The Film Certificate of Achievement degree is designed to meet the professional standards for acquiring common body of knowledge and skills for professional practice in the motion picture industry. Upon graduation with the Film certificate of achievement, students are ready to work as professionals, and have a broad range of conceptual, formal, and technological skills in filmmaking. Whatever educational or career paths they take, certain fundamental competencies have been acquired. This fits into Chabot College’s mission by preparing students to contribute to the intellectual, cultural, and economic vitality of the region.
