This certificate provides students with a concentrated study of drug addiction and mental health issues and how the criminal justice system can legally and effectively respond to emergencies related to addiction and mental health.
This certificate program fits within the Administration of Justice Department and is a career technical education program support future and incumbent criminal justice professionals. It furthers the college’s workforce training mission and supports students who seek to transfer to a4-year institution. This certificate program responds to and complies with the legislative intent of AB846 signed into law in October 2020 amending section 1031 of the California Government Code. This certificate program is responsive to the California Community College Chancellor’s “call to action” in June of 2020 asking for change in police training.
Learning Outcomes:
Napa Valley College currently provides entry-level and in-service workforce training for law enforcement officers, 9-1-1 dispatchers, and correctional officers. There are approximately 90,000 law enforcement officers and 9-1-1 dispatchers and37,000 correctional officers working in California.
The Administration of Justice Department prepares students for this sizeable workforce. This certificate program provides an additional step in the pathway to a two-year degree and or transfer to a 4-years institution.
