The goal of the Family Child Care Certificate of Achievement Program is to educate participants on becoming entrepreneurs and small business owners in Family Child Care. The crucial objective of the certificate seeks to provide training in early childhood development, brain growth, and development, social-emotional strategies, and connect students to the business aspects of Family Child Care including contracts, advertising, budgets, record keeping, and staff relations, and licensing regulations. The certificate also aims to educate students regarding high-quality physical environments in a home setting, age-appropriate activities, communication with families, utilizing community resources, creative experiences through play, and observing and assessing family child care programs. The learning outcomes from this certificate will increase the student’s workforce skills through visiting a Family Child Care program to observe quality based on a checklist related to the Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale (FCCERS), through the skills of creating and presenting a Marketing/Advertising plan designed for a family child care program, through creating activities that will enhance children's learning in one developmental area of dramatic play, music, art, social or emotional leaning, and through respond to the situations of three different scenarios describing intervention support and strategies to help the children and their families.
The program course requirements allow family child care providers to appreciate high-quality physical environments in a family home setting through evaluating, assessing the classroom, teacher effectiveness, field study of accredited programs, and an in-depth study of the business aspects of owning and directing a family child care program. Providers are working with four stages of children at the same time, same day, and in the same facility; therefore, it is essential for them to better understand teacher/child interactions, unique personalities, temperaments, play, and creative experiences in the home setting. This program also involves the interrelationship support and empowerment of families, schools, and communities, including developing culturally sensitive individualized plans for behavior management of traditional and special needs children. These providers will receive a full awareness of neuroscience that explains the growth of the brain with factors affecting brain growth, communication, language development, cognition, executive functioning, and social-emotional development. Through all required courses, the family child care provider will accomplish an optimal experience and guidance in becoming a successful entrepreneur in facilitating family child care.
