This program of study will qualify students for National Registry of EMT's Testing/Certification which is required by the State of California and the Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency (IC EMA).
Healthcare Provider or Equivalent CPR Card Required for ALHT 55A.

Upon completion of the required courses with at least a “C” grade or better in each course, the student will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, Emergency Medical Technician.
Based on recent enrollment numbers we anticipate 30-40 annual completers of the Certificate of Achievement, Emergency Medical Technician program.
The goals and objectives of this program are to provide students with Career and Technical Education instruction in Emergency Medical Technology. This program will help meet one of the California Community College’s primary missions of advancing California’s economic growth and global competitiveness through education that contributes to continuous workforce improvement. This program also aligns with Barstow Community College’s mission by offering career and technical education and workforce development programs and courses that give students knowledge, skills and certification necessary for success in the workplace. This program will prepare students for entry level-positions in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) field.
Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement, Emergency Medical Technician the student will be able to do the following:
1. Apply scientific knowledge in providing prehospital and emergency medical care while using effective communication and interpersonal skills with patients and other health care workers.
2.) Provide competent and safe care in a variety of settings to a group of patients with diverse needs across the life span by demonstrating knowledgeable decision making and judgment based on critical thinking, clinical competence, accountability and collaboration with the patient and health care team
3.) To prepare completers who are eligible to seek licensure as EMTs and that meet the expectations of the EMS Community
The proposed occupational program of the Certificate of Achievement, Emergency Medical Technician is appropriate to the mission of Barstow Community College and the California Community College system. It is directed at the Certificate of Achievement award level at the community college education level.
