The Wastewater Certificate of Achievement provides the relevant knowledge and skills required for entry-level employment or internship as an Operator In Training, Water or Wastewater Operator, Instrumentation Technician, Laboratory Technician, Maintenance, or other wastewater related positions. The subjects are taught using a practical approach with an emphasis on wastewater procedures, standards, and other job-related skills.
Approximately 15-24 students will complete this certificate in 3 semesters.
This Certification of Achievement is aligned to current Labor Market Information foundational skills and meets the technical skills gap demand in the Bay Area’s Water industry. The certificate was created by an Industry Advisory Committee and meets Bay Area California Community Colleges Consortium (BACCC) approval requirements to fill a projected skills gap.
Program Learning Outcomes:
• Determine the appropriate methods and formulas necessary to solve problems relating to wastewater problems.
• Demonstrate competence in wastewater quality standards and public health issues.
• Demonstrate competence in instruments, control systems, and testing circuits utilizing safe and industry-standard practices and procedures.
• Demonstrate the basic principles of the conventional wastewater treatment process.
• Identify the various sources of water available for use in the water distribution system.
• Identify the various types of pipes, fittings, and appurtenant structures used in a wastewater collection system.
