This certificate gives students a grounding in horticulture with a focus on trees and tree care. The student will gain knowledge and skills as part of the preparation to take the Certified Arborist exam administered by the International Society of Arboriculture.
It is anticipated that 10-12 students per year will earn this COA.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will demonstrate an ability to:
Identify and name 80-100 tree species and cultivars and discuss placement and care in landscape settings.
Describe and practice correct pruning techniques in young and established trees.
Apply basic botanical and horticultural knowledge to the cultivation and care of trees in the landscape or nursery setting.
Pass the Certified Arborist exam administered by the International Society of Arboriculture.
