The coursework in this certificate is designed to prepare students who plan to own a business and/or consult in filming, editing and producing video content.
Upon satisfactory completion of this award, the student should be prepared to:
1. Create a marketing plan for digital media.
2. Create a business plan.
3. Identify the process for protecting original media.4. Create and edit video and still photography.
There are consistently 18-20 students enrolled annually in the current Entrepreneur Program and they are asking for additional opportunities and course offerings. Faculty projects that about 12-15 or 60-75% of the students who take the introductory classes along with digital media courses will follow through and annually complete this certificate. While it’s difficult to determine how many of these will enter the field as entrepreneurs, it is reasonable to estimate that 9-10 of the completers will become entrepreneurs, approximately 50%. The Gig Economy media entrepreneurs is a very fast-growing area in entrepreneurship.
Projections of Employment
In California, the number of Graphic designers is expected to grow slower than average growth rate for all occupations. Jobs for Graphic Designers are expected to increase by 7.1 percent, or 2,600 jobs between 2016 and 2026.
In Stanislaus County, the number of Media Designers is expected to grow slower than average growth rate for all occupations. Jobs for Graphic Designers are expected to increase by 5.9 percent, or 10 jobs between 2016 and 2026.
The goal for the Media for Entrepreneurs program is to grow and develop the program to meet the needs of the community’s initiatives for small business development and entrepreneurship growth. Student’s with skills in photo editing, video production, and typography along with small business development are open to start businesses in areas of marketing, print media, video creation, and small business promotion to name a few.
In order to grow and develop the Media for Entrepreneurs Program there is a need for more options for students, including but not limited to this Certificate of Achievement. The Media for Entrepreneurs Certificate of Achievement will prepare students to be able to prepare a business plan, protect their intellectual property, design marketing materials and media, market and open their own businesses.
Students that go on to major in Media and Design will learn to produce digital content combining components such as video, audio, graphics and text for application in areas such as entertainment, marketing and advertising or education and training. In this program, students develop professional and creativity skills while gaining hands-on experience with the latest technology as they work on projects and build a portfolio of multimedia content.

· Create and enter into contracts
