This certificate is designed to prepare students to perform entry-level administrative tasks in the offices of healthcare practitioners or other healthcare facilities. The tasks include communications with patients for case histories, scheduling appointments, updating and maintaining records, and familiarity with customer billing and electronic health records.
It is anticipated that annually 20 students will complete this program. In the similar certificate program, the fundamentals of medical billing and coding, that was approved four years ago, the number of certificates awarded were between 2-12 in the last years. However, these numbers do not justify the high demand of the certificate due to the pandemic.
The purpose of the Medical Office Administrative Assistant Certificate program is to prepare students for entry-level medical office administrative positions within the healthcare industry. The certificate program includes a hands-on approach to learning the concepts, skills, and practical application used in the areas of front office reception, entry level medical billing, and electronic health records.
